731 — Abū Muhammad Yahyā ibn Muhammad ibn Sāʿid informed us, saying: Muhammad ibn Zunbūr al-Makkī narrated to us, saying: Fudayl ibn ʿIyād narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from Abū Sufyān, from Anas ibn Mālik, who said: The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) would frequently say, “O Turner of hearts, keep my heart firm upon Your religion.” He was asked, “O Messenger of Allah, do you fear for us even though we have believed in you and believed in what you have brought?” He replied, “The hearts of all creatures lie between two fingers of the Most Merciful—Mighty and Majestic is He. If He wills, He turns them this way, and if He wills, He turns them that way.”
