726 — Abū Nasr Muhammad ibn Kurdī narrated to us, saying: Abū Bakr al-Marwazī narrated to us, saying: I asked Abū Abd Allāh Ahmad ibn Hanbal, may Allah have mercy on him, about the hadiths concerning the divine attributes, the Night Journey, the Vision, and the account of the Throne that the Jahmiyyah reject. He declared them authentic and said: “The scholars have received them with acceptance. The reports are to be accepted just as they have come.” ⦗1155⦘

Abū Bakr al-Marwazī said: Abū Bakr and Uthmān, the two sons of Abū Shaybah, sent a message to Abū Abd Allāh seeking his permission to relate these hadiths that the Jahmiyyah reject. Abū Abd Allāh replied: “Relate them. The scholars have received them with acceptance.” Abū Abd Allāh also said: “The reports are to be accepted just as they have come.”

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: I heard Abū Abd Allāh al-Zubayrī, may Allah have mercy on him, when he was asked about the meaning of this hadith. He mentioned something similar to what had been said concerning it, then said: “We believe in these reports that have come just as they have come, and we believe in them with full faith. We do not ask, ‘How?’ Rather, in this matter we stop at the limit set for us, and we say concerning it only what the reports have stated, just as they have come.”
