718 — Ibn Abī Dāwūd informed us, saying: Salama ibn Shabīb narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Razzāq narrated to us, saying: Maʿmar informed us, from Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr, who said: ʿAbd al-Rahmān ibn al-Baylamānī narrated to me, saying: “Not a night passes but your Lord, Mighty and Majestic, descends into the heavens. There is no heaven in which He does not have a seat. Whenever He descends into a heaven, its inhabitants fall down in prostration until He returns. When He reaches the lowest heaven, it creaks and trembles out of fear of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, while He stretches out His hands and calls to His servants: ‘O My servants! Who will call upon Me, that I may answer him? Who will repent to Me, that I may accept his repentance? Who will seek My forgiveness, that I may forgive him? Who will ask Me, that I may give him? Who will lend to One who is neither destitute nor unjust?’—or words to that effect.”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: What I have mentioned is sufficient for anyone who holds fast to the Sunnahs and receives them with the fullest acceptance, neither opposing them by asking, “How?” or “Why?” but following and not innovating.
