711 — Abū Muhammad Yahyā ibn Muhammad ibn Sāʿid also narrated to us, saying: al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan al-Marwazī narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ⦗1139⦘ al-Mubārak informed us, saying: Hishām narrated to us, from Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from Hilāl ibn Abī Maymūna, from Rifāʿa al-Juhanī. Ibn Sāʿid said: “This is how he narrated it to us from ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak, omitting ʿAtāʾ ibn Yasār from the chain.” It was therefore narrated to us by al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan, Yaʿqūb ibn Ibrāhīm al-Dawraqī, and Ziyād ibn Ayyūb, who said: Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm narrated to us, saying: Hishām al-Dastawāʾī narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr narrated to us, from Hilāl ibn Abī Maymūna, from ʿAtāʾ ibn Yasār, from Rifāʿa al-Juhanī. The wording is that of Ibn al-Mubārak. Rifāʿa said: We traveled with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, until, when we reached al-Kadīd—or, he said, Qudayd—some of our men began asking his permission to go to their families, and he granted them permission. He then praised Allah, glorious is His Majesty, spoke words of goodness, and said: “When half the night has passed—or, he said, one-third of it—Allah, glorious is His Majesty, descends to the lowest heaven and says: ‘I ask no one other than Myself about My servants. Who is it that seeks My forgiveness, that I may forgive him? Who is it that calls upon Me, that I may answer him? Who is it that asks Me, that I may give him?’ This continues until morning breaks.”
712 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd informed us, saying: Muhammad ibn Khalaf al-ʿAsqalānī narrated to us, saying: Rawwād ibn al-Jarrāh narrated to us, saying: al-Awzāʿī narrated to us, from Yahyā ⦗1140⦘ ibn Abī Kathīr, from Hilāl ibn Abī Maymūna, from Rifāʿa al-Juhanī. Rawwād identified him as Ibn ʿArāba, and related the hadith in similar terms.
