710 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Dāwūd narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn Muhammad ibn al-Sabbāh narrated to us, saying: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUlayya narrated to us, from Hishām al-Dastawāʾī, from Yahyā ibn Abī Kathīr, from Hilāl ibn Abī Maymūna, from ʿAtāʾ ibn Yasār, from Rifāʿa al-Juhanī, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “When the first half of the night has passed—or, he said, two-thirds of it—Allah, glorious is His Majesty, descends to the lowest heaven and says: ‘I ask no one other than Myself about My servants. Who is it that seeks My forgiveness, that I may forgive him? Who is it that calls upon Me, that I may answer him? Who is it that asks Me, that I may give him?’ This continues until dawn breaks.” On another occasion, he said: “Until morning breaks.”
