701 — Abū Muhammad ʿAbd Allah ibn Sālih al-Bukhārī informed us, saying: Muhammad ibn Sulaymān Luwayn narrated to us, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Salama, from Abū Hurayra, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: “Allah, glorious is His majesty, descends every night to the lowest heaven when the last third of the night remains and says: ‘Who will call upon Me, that I may answer him? Who will seek My forgiveness, that I may forgive him?’—until dawn breaks.” For that reason, they used to favor the latter part of the night.
