696 – Abū Saʿīd al-Hasan ibn ʿAlī al-Jassās narrated to us: al-Rabīʿ ibn Sulaymān narrated to us: al-Shāfiʿī, may Allah have mercy on him, said: “With regard to the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, there is nothing to do but follow it, as Allah, exalted and glorified is He, has made obligatory. Asking ‘How?’ about a matter established by the Sunnah is something no scholar may do. And Allah knows best.”
