Chapter: Belief and Affirmation that Allah, exalted and glorified is He, Descends to the Lowest Heaven Every Night
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Belief in this is obligatory. No rational Muslim may ask, “How does He descend?” None reject this except the Muʿtazila. As for the people of truth, they say: Belief in it is obligatory, without asking how, because the reports have been authentically transmitted from the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, “that Allah, exalted and glorified is He, descends to the lowest heaven every night.”
Those who transmitted these reports to us are the same people who transmitted to us the rulings concerning what is lawful and unlawful, and the knowledge of prayer, zakat, fasting, pilgrimage, and jihad. Just as the scholars accepted those matters from them, they likewise accepted these sunnahs from them. They said: “Whoever rejects them is misguided and vile.” They beware of him and warn others against him.
