694 — Abū al-Qāsim Abd Allāh ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Azīz al-Baghawī narrated to us: al-Hasan ibn al-Sabbāh narrated to us: Qāsim al-Umarī narrated to me, from Abd al-Rahmān ibn Muhammad ibn Habīb ibn Abī Habīb, from his father, from his grandfather, who said:

I witnessed Khālid ibn Abd Allāh al-Qasrī delivering a sermon. When he had finished his sermon—and it was the Day of Sacrifice—he said:

“Go back and offer your sacrifices; may Allah accept them from you. As for me, I am going to sacrifice al-Jad ibn Dirham, for he claims that Allah, exalted and glorified is He, did not speak directly to Moses and did not take Abraham as an intimate friend. Allah is immeasurably exalted above what al-Jad ibn Dirham says.”

He then descended and slaughtered him. ⦗1123⦘

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: What I have mentioned in this chapter is sufficient for anyone who understands what has come from Allah—majestic is His name—from His Messenger, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and from the reports cited: that Allah, exalted is He, spoke directly to Moses, peace be upon him, and that Allah—majestic and glorious is He—spoke to Moses, peace be upon him, with no messenger between them.
