693 — Abū Abd Allāh Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Abd al-Jabbār al-Sūfī narrated to us: al-Hasan ibn Hammād, known as Sajjādah, informed us: Amr ibn Hāshim narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhāk, from Ibn Abbās, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:

“Allah, exalted and glorified is He, communed privately with Moses, peace be upon him, in one hundred and forty thousand words, ⦗1121⦘ all of them counsels. Among what He said to him was: ‘O Moses, those who seek to win My favor have never done so through anything like renunciation of this world; those who seek to draw near to Me have never done so through anything like scrupulous abstinence from what I have forbidden them; and worshippers have never worshipped Me through anything like weeping out of fear of Me.’

Moses said, ‘O God of all creation, Sovereign of the Day of Judgment, Possessor of Majesty and Honor! What have You prepared for them, and how have You rewarded them?’

He said: He said, ‘As for those who renounce this world, I shall grant them free access to My Paradise, where they may dwell wherever they wish. As for those who scrupulously abstain from what I have forbidden them, when the Day of Resurrection comes, there shall be no servant whom I do not subject to an exacting account and examine concerning what is in his hands—except them. I am indeed shy before them; I esteem and honor them, and I shall admit them into Paradise without reckoning. As for those who weep out of fear of Me, they shall have the sublime, highest company, which no one else will share with them.’”
