692 — Abū al-Tayyib al-Husayn ibn Alī ibn Sālih al-Harawī narrated to us: Abū Bakr Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Hajjāj al-Marwazī and Ishāq ibn Ibrāhīm ibn Abd al-Rahmān narrated to us. They said: Ahmad ibn Hanbal narrated to us: Ismāʿīl ibn Abd al-Karīm ibn Maʿqil ibn Munabbih narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Samad ibn ⦗1120⦘ Maʿqil narrated to me: I heard Wahb ibn Munabbih say:
“When Moses, peace be upon him, became severely distressed, his Lord, Majestic is His glory, said to him, ‘Draw near to Me.’ He continued drawing him nearer until He braced his back against the trunk of the tree. He then grew steady, and his trembling left him. He clasped both hands around the staffs and bowed his head and neck in submission. His Lord, Mighty and Majestic is He, then said to him, ‘Today I have placed you in a station that no human being after you may occupy. I have drawn you near to Me until you heard My speech and were in the place nearest to Me.’”
He then mentioned the rest of the report.
