678 — ʿUmar ibn Ayyūb al-Saqatī narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn al-Sabbāh al-Bazzār narrated to us ⦗1105⦘, saying: ʿAlī ibn al-Hasan ibn Shaqīq narrated to us, from Khārija ibn Musʿab, from Saʿīd, from Qatāda, regarding the saying of Allah, Glorious and Exalted: “He is God in heaven and God on earth” [al-Zukhruf: 84]. He said, “He is worshipped as God in heaven and worshipped as God on earth.”

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: What I have mentioned and explained is sufficient for the adherents of truth. I have done so out of concern for them, lest their hearts be affected by the deceptions of the adherents of falsehood—such as one whose vile, evil doctrine inclines him to listen to beardless youths sing and to take pleasure in gazing at them, while he does not like listening to a grown man. He dances and cavorts; Satan has gained mastery over him and toys with him as he opposes the truth. In his conduct, he refers neither to the Book nor to the Sunnah, nor to the statements of the Companions, nor to those who followed them faithfully, nor to the statement of any imam from among the imams of the Muslims. The abominations they conceal—matters unfit to mention—are more vile still. Yet they claim that this is a religion they follow. We seek refuge in Allah from the vileness of their practices, and we ask Him to grant us success in following the path of right guidance. Indeed, He is All-Hearing and Near.
