676 — Al-Firyābī also informed us, saying: Dāwūd ibn Mikhrāq al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Wakīʿ narrated to us, from Ibn Abī Dhiʾb, from Ishāq ibn Yazīd al-Hudhalī, from ʿAwn ibn ʿAbd Allah ibn ⦗1101⦘ ʿUtba, from Ibn Masʿūd, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “When one of you bows, let him say three times while bowing, ‘Glory be to my Lord, the Magnificent.’ If he does so, his bowing is complete, and that is the minimum. When he prostrates, let him say three times, ‘Glory be to my Lord, the Most High.’ If he does so, his prostration is complete, and that is the minimum.”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Among the texts cited by the proponents of divine indwelling to confuse those without knowledge is the saying of Allah, Glorious and Exalted: “He is the First and the Last, the Ascendant and the Intimate” [al-Hadīd: 3]. The scholars have explained ⦗1102⦘ this verse as follows: He is the First, before everything, including life and death; the Last, after everything, after creation; the Ascendant, above everything—that is, above whatever is in the heavens; and the Intimate, near to all things—He knows what lies beneath the earths. The end of the verse indicates this: “And He has knowledge of all things” [al-Hadīd: 3]. This is how Muqātil ibn Hayyān and Muqātil ibn Sulaymān explained it, and the Sunnah establishes it.
