668 — Abū Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Shāhīn narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Sahl ibn Askar narrated to us, saying: Nuaym ibn Hammād narrated to us, saying: al-Walīd ibn Muslim narrated to us, from Abd al-Rahmān ibn Yazīd ibn Jābir, from Ibn Abī Zakariyyā, from Rajā ibn Haywah, from al-Nawwās ibn Samān, who said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:

“When Allah—Glorious is His Majesty—speaks through revelation, the heaven is seized by a tremor—or, he said, a violent convulsion—out of fear of Allah ⦗1093⦘—Glorious is His Majesty. When the inhabitants of the heavens hear it, they fall unconscious and collapse in prostration before Allah—Glorious is His Majesty. Gabriel, peace be upon him, is the first to raise his head. He—Mighty and Majestic is He—then addresses him with whatever revelation He wills. Gabriel carries it past His angels, heaven after heaven. Whenever he passes through a heaven, its angels ask him, ‘What did our Lord say, O Gabriel?’ He replies, ‘He spoke the truth, and He is the Most High, the Most Great.’ Gabriel then conveys the revelation wherever Allah—Glorious is His Majesty—commands him, in heaven and on earth.”
