648 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn Uthmān ibn Khālid narrated to us, saying: Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from his father, who said:

While I was sitting with Humayd ibn Abd al-Rahmān, a venerable elder from Banū Ghifār, whose eyesight was somewhat weak, passed through the mosque of the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace. Humayd sent for him. When he approached, Humayd said to me, “My nephew, make room for him between you and me, for he accompanied the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—on some of his journeys.” He seated him between us and then said, “Relate the hadith you heard from the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace.” The elder said: I heard the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say:

“Allah—Mighty and Majestic is He—causes the clouds to form; they then laugh most beautifully and speak most eloquently.”

649 — Abū Bakr Abd Allah ibn Muhammad ibn Abd al-Hamīd al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Yaʿqūb al-Dawraqī narrated to us, saying: Abū Dāwūd al-Tayālisī narrated to us, saying: ⦗1067⦘ Ibrāhīm ibn Saʿd narrated to us, from his father, who said: I was sitting with Humayd ibn Abd al-Rahmān ibn Awf—and he related something similar to al-Firyābī’s report.
