62 — Abū Zakariyyā Yahyā ibn Muhammad ibn al-Bakhtarī al-Hinnā’ī informed us: Muhammad ibn Ubayd ibn Hassāb narrated to us: Hammād ibn Zayd narrated to us: Umar ibn Yazīd, the food merchant, narrated to us, saying: I heard al-Hasan during the time of Yazīd ibn al-Muhallab. A group of men came to him, and he instructed them to remain in their homes ⦗374⦘ and shut their doors. He then said:

“By Allah, if people bore patiently whenever they suffered an ordeal at the hands of their ruler, it would not be long before Allah relieved them of it. Instead, they rush to the sword and are then left to it. By Allah, they have never brought about a single good day.”

He then recited:

“And the good word of your Lord was fulfilled for the Children of Israel because of their patience. And We destroyed what Pharaoh and his people had been producing and what they had been building.”
