Chapter: Belief That Allah—Glorified and Exalted—Laughs

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Know—may Allah guide us and you to soundness in word and deed—that the people of truth describe Allah—Glorified and Exalted—with what He has described Himself, with what His Messenger ﷺ described Him, and with what the Companions—may Allah be pleased with them—described Him. This is the doctrine of the scholars who followed and did not innovate. One does not ask concerning it, “How?” Rather, it is accepted with submission and believed: Allah—Glorified and Exalted—laughs. This has been narrated from the Prophet ﷺ and from his Companions. None denies this except one whose condition is not commendable in the sight of the people of truth. We shall mention of it what we are presently able to recall. Allah is the One who grants success in attaining what is right, and there is no might except through Allah, the Most High, the Magnificent.
