619 — Abū Hafs Umar ibn Ayyūb al-Saqatī narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn al-Sabbāh al-Bazzāz narrated to us, saying: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, saying ⦗1032⦘: Hammām ibn Yahyā informed us, saying: Qatāda narrated to us, from Safwān ibn Muhriz, who said: I was holding Ibn Umar’s hand when a man came to him and asked, “What did you hear the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say concerning the private conversation?” He replied: I heard the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say:

“Allah—glorious is His Majesty—will draw the believer near on the Day of Resurrection until He places His covering over him and conceals him from the people. He will then say, ‘O My servant, do you recognize such-and-such?’ He will reply, ‘Yes, my Lord.’ He will again say, ‘O My servant, do you recognize such-and-such?’ He will reply, ‘Yes, my Lord.’ Then, when He has made him acknowledge his sins and he thinks to himself, ‘I am doomed,’ Allah will say, ‘I concealed them for you in this world, and today I have forgiven you for them.’ He will then be given the record of his good deeds.”
