618 — Al-Firyābī informed us: Uthmān ibn Abī Shayba narrated to us, saying ⦗1031⦘: Ismāīl ibn Ulayya narrated to us, from Hishām al-Dastawāʾī, from Qatāda, from Safwān ibn Muhriz, who said: A man asked Ibn Umar, “What did you hear the Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—say concerning the private conversation?” He replied that he had heard him say:
“The believer will draw near to his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, on the Day of Resurrection until He places His covering over him. He will then make him acknowledge his sins and ask, ‘Do you recognize them?’ He will reply, ‘My Lord, I do.’ He will then say, ‘I concealed them for you in this world, and today I forgive you for them.’ He will then be given the scroll of his good deeds. As for the disbeliever and the hypocrite, it will be proclaimed about them before all the witnesses: ‘These are the ones who lied against their Lord’ [Hūd: 18].”
