610 — Abū Abd Allah Ahmad ibn Abī Awf al-Bazūrī narrated to us, saying: Wahb ibn Baqiyya al-Wāsitī narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Hasan al-Madanī narrated to us, from Abd al-Ala ibn Abī al-Musāwir, from al-Minhāl ibn Amr, from Qays ibn Sakan and Abū Ubayda ibn Abd Allah ibn Masud, both of whom narrated from Abd Allah ibn Masud, who said: The Messenger of ⦗1020⦘ Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said:
“Indeed, Allah—Glorious and Exalted—will gather the nations. He—Glorious and Exalted—will then descend from His Throne to His Footstool, and His Footstool encompasses the heavens and the earth. He will ask them, ‘Would you be content for every nation to follow whatever it followed in this world?’ They will reply, ‘Yes.’ Allah—Glorious and Exalted—will ask, ‘Is that just on your Lord’s part?’ He said: They will reply, ‘Yes.’
“He said: Then what they worshipped will be represented before them. The sun will be represented to whoever worshipped the sun; the moon will be represented to whoever worshipped the moon; the fire will be represented to whoever ⦗1021⦘ worshipped the fire; an idol will be represented to whoever worshipped an idol; Jesus will be represented to whoever worshipped Jesus; and Ezra will be represented to whoever worshipped Ezra. Then it will be said, ‘Let every nation among you follow that to which it devoted itself in this world,’ until it leads them into the Fire.
“He said: Then he recited: ‘Remain where you are, you and your partners’ [Yūnus: 28], through to His words: ‘We were indeed unaware that you worshipped us’ [Yūnus: 29].
“The community of Muhammad—peace and blessings be upon him—will remain, and they will be asked, ‘What are you waiting for?’ They will reply, ‘We have a Lord whom we have not yet seen.’ They will be asked, ‘Would you recognize Him if you saw Him?’ They will reply, ‘There is a sign between us and Him.’ He said: That will be when the Shin is uncovered. He said: They will then fall before Him in prolonged prostration. He said: Some people will remain whose backs are like the horns of ⦗1022⦘ cattle; they will wish to prostrate but will be unable to do so. He said: They will be told, ‘Raise your heads and receive your light in proportion to your deeds.’”
“He then related the hadith to its conclusion.”
