608 — Abū al-Fadl Jafar ibn Muhammad al-Sandalī narrated to us, saying: Zuhayr ibn Muhammad al-Marwazī narrated to us, saying: al-Hasan ibn Mūsā narrated to us, saying: Hammād ibn Salama narrated to us, from Alī ibn Zayd, from Umāra ibn Mūsā al-Qurashī, from Abū Burda, from Abū Mūsā, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“Allah, Mighty and Majestic, will gather the nations on the Day of Resurrection upon a single plain. When He wills to separate His creatures, He will represent before each people whatever they used to worship. They will follow those objects of worship, which will drive them into the Fire. Then our Lord—Exalted be He—will come to us ⦗1018⦘ while we are upon a high place and ask, ‘Who are you?’

“We will reply, ‘We are the Muslims.’

“He will ask, ‘What are you waiting for?’

“They will reply, ‘We are waiting for our Lord, Mighty and Majestic.’

“He will ask, ‘Will you recognize Him when you see Him?’

“They will reply, ‘Yes.’

“He will ask, ‘How will you recognize Him when you have never seen Him?’

“They will reply, ‘He has no equal.’

“He will then reveal Himself to them, smiling, and say, ‘Rejoice, company of Muslims! There is not one of you but that I have placed a Jew or a Christian in the Fire in his stead.’”
