581 — Abū Muzāhim Mūsā ibn Ubayd Allāh ibn Yahyā ibn Khāqān narrated to us: al-Abbās ibn Muhammad al-Dūrī narrated to us: I heard Abū Ubayd al-Qāsim ibn Sallām say, when these hadiths concerning the vision were mentioned before him, “In our view, these are true; people have transmitted them from one another.”

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Whoever turns away from the way of these imams, whose names evoke no distrust, contradicts the Book and the Sunnah, and embraces the views of Jahm, Bishr al-Marīsī, and their ilk is an unbeliever.

As for the exegesis that has come down to us concerning some of what I have recited, I shall mention whatever I can presently recall, if Allah wills. I shall then cite the established reports concerning gazing upon Allah Most High, by which the hearts of the people of truth are strengthened, their eyes are comforted, the souls of the people of deviation are abased, and their eyes are made to burn with grief in this world and the Hereafter.
