56 — Abū Abd Allah Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Abd al-Jabbār al-Sūfī informed us, saying: Muhammad ibn Bakkār narrated to us, saying: Ismāīl ibn Zakariyyā narrated to us, from Yazīd ibn Abī Ziyād, who said:
I asked Saīd ibn Jubayr about the people of al-Nahrawān. He replied: Masrūq narrated to me, saying: Aisha—may Allah be pleased with her—asked me, “Did you yourself see the man they call Dhu al-Thudayya—the one with the small breast-like growth?”
I replied, “I did not see him, but men who did see him have testified before me.”
She said, “When you reach that land, write to me with the testimony of trustworthy men who saw him.”
When I arrived, the people were divided into seven groups. I spoke with ten men from each group who had seen him. I then told her, “All of these men are upright and trustworthy.”
She said, “May Allah destroy so-and-so! He wrote to me claiming that he had found him in Egypt.” ⦗362⦘
