561 — Abū al-Fadl al-ʿAbbās ibn Yūsuf al-Shiklī narrated to us, saying: One of the scholars said: “A question with which a Qadarī may be decisively refuted is to ask him: ‘Tell us: Did Allah Most High will for His servants to believe but was unable to bring it about, or was He able but did not will it?’ If he says, ‘He was able but did not will it,’ he is told ⦗963⦘: ‘Who, then, can guide someone whom Allah does not will to guide?’ But if he says, ‘He willed it but was unable,’ he is told: ‘There is no doubt among all creation that you have disbelieved, O enemy of Allah.’”
