559 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī narrated to us, saying: I heard Muʿādh ibn Muʿādh say: “ʿUmar ibn al-Haytham al-Raqāshī and I prayed behind al-Rabīʿ ibn Barra.” Muʿādh said: “ʿUmar ibn al-Haytham informed me that, on another occasion, the time for prayer came while he was with him, so he prayed behind him. He said, ‘I then sat supplicating, whereupon he said, “Perhaps you are one of those who say: ‘O Allah, protect me from sin’?”’” Muʿādh said: “I repeated that prayer twenty years later.”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: This al-Rabīʿ ibn Barra was a Qadarī and was one of the devout worshippers among them.
