558 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shayba narrated to us, saying: Marhūm ibn ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz narrated to us from his father and his paternal uncle, both of whom he heard say: “We heard al-Hasan, while he was forbidding people from sitting with Maʿbad al-Juhanī, say, ‘Do not sit with him, for he is astray and leads others astray.’”
Muhammad ibn al-Husayn—may Allah have mercy on him—said: Then know—may Allah have mercy on us and you—that the Qadarī does not say, “O Allah, grant me success,” nor does he ⦗961⦘ say, “O Allah, protect me from sin,” nor does he say, “There is no power or strength except through Allah,” because he believes that the will is his own: if he wishes, he obeys, and if he wishes, he disobeys. Therefore, beware of their doctrines, lest they lure you away from your religion.
