550 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Saʿīd informed me, from Abū al-Zubayr, that while he and Tāwūs were circumambulating the House, Maʿbad al-Juhanī passed by. Someone said to Tāwūs, “That is Maʿbad al-Juhanī.” Tāwūs turned toward him and said, “Are you the one who fabricates lies against Allah and says what you do not know?” He replied, “Lies are being told about me.”

Abū al-Zubayr said: I then went with Tāwūs until we went in to see Ibn ʿAbbās. Tāwūs said to him, “O Abū ʿAbbās—those who espouse the Qadarite doctrine…” He said, “Show me some of them.” We asked, “What would you do?” He replied, “In that case, I would seize him by the head and break his neck
