540 — Al-Firyābī also informed us, saying: Abū Hafs ʿAmr ibn ʿUthmān al-Himsī narrated to me, saying: Baqiyya ibn al-Walīd narrated to us, saying: Abū ʿAmr—meaning al-Awzāʿī—narrated to us, saying: Al-ʿAlāʾ ibn al-Hajjāj narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn ʿUbayd al-Makkī, from Ibn ʿAbbās—may Allah be pleased with them both—who said:
He was told, “A man has come to us who denies divine decree.” He said, “Lead me to him.” He was blind at the time, so they asked, “What will you do to him?” He replied, “By Him in whose hand is my soul, if I get hold of him, I will bite his nose until I sever it; and if his neck falls into my hands, I will surely crush it. By Him in whose hand is my soul, their corrupt doctrine will not cease leading them onward until they deny that Allah Most High decreed good, just as they have denied that He decrees evil.”
