539 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Qatan ibn Nasīr narrated to us, saying: Jaʿfar ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, saying: Abū Sinān narrated to us, saying:
Wahb ibn Munabbih and ʿAtāʾ al-Khurāsānī met in Mecca. ʿAtāʾ said, “Abū ʿAbd Allāh, what are these writings that I have heard were written down from you concerning divine decree?” Wahb replied, “I have written no such works, nor have I spoken about divine decree.”
Wahb then said, “I have read more than seventy of the Books of Allah Most High. More than forty of them are publicly available in churches, while more than twenty are known only to a few people. In every one of them I found this: ‘Whoever assigns to himself any share of the divine will has disbelieved.’”
