513 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Ishāq ibn Mūsā narrated to us, saying: Abū Damrah Anas ibn Iyād narrated to us, saying: Abū Suhayl Nāfi ibn Mālik ibn Abī Āmir narrated to me that he said: Umar ibn Abd al-Azīz said to me, with his mouth directly to my ear, “What do you say concerning those who claim that there is no divine predestination?” I replied, “I believe they should be called upon to repent. If they repent, well and good; otherwise, I would have them beheaded.” Umar said, “That is the proper course concerning them. “Indeed, you and whatever you worship cannot tempt anyone away from Him except one who is destined to burn in the Hellfire.” [al-Sāffāt: 162]
