512 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Qutaybah ibn Saīd narrated to us, saying: Abd Allah ibn Jafar, the father of Ali ibn al-Madīnī, narrated to us, saying: Abū Suhayl Nāfi ibn Mālik ⦗918⦘ narrated to me, saying: I was traveling alongside Umar ibn Abd al-Azīz when he sought my counsel concerning the Qadarites. I said, “I believe you should call upon them to repent. If they repent, well and good; otherwise, have them beheaded.” Umar replied, “Indeed, that is the course required by truth in dealing with them.”
