499 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Abd al-A'lā ibn Hammād narrated to us, saying: Mu'tamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, saying: Abū Makhzūm narrated to us, from Sayyār Abū al-Hakam, who said: It has reached us that the delegation of Najrān said, “Provisions and appointed lifespans are governed by divine decree, but deeds are not governed by divine decree.” Allah then revealed this verse concerning them: “Indeed, the criminals are in error and madness. On the Day they are dragged on their faces into the Fire, they will be told, ‘Taste the touch of Saqar!’ Indeed, We created all things according to a decree.” [al-Qamar: 48]
