45 — Abū Bakr ibn Abd al-Hamīd narrated to us, saying: Ibn al-Muqri narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from Maʿmar, from Ibn Tāwūs, from his father, who said: The Kharijites and what overtook them when they recited the Quran were mentioned to Ibn Abbās. He said, “They believe in its clear verses but go astray concerning its ambiguous ones.” He then recited: “No one knows its interpretation except Allah. Those firmly grounded in knowledge say, ‘We believe in it’” [Āl Imrān: 7].
