453 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shayba narrated to us, saying: Abū Muʿāwiya narrated to us, from al-Aʿmash, from ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Maysara, from Tāwūs, who said: I was sitting with Ibn ʿAbbās in a gathering when the Qadarites were mentioned. He said, “Is any one of them here, so that I may seize him by the head and recite to him: ‘We decreed for the Children of Israel in the Scripture: You will surely cause corruption in the land twice, and you will surely rise to great heights of arrogance’ [al-Isrāʾ 17:4]? Then I would recite to him such-and-such a verse and such-and-such a verse—verses from the Quran.”
