440 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Abū Anas Mālik ibn Sulaymān narrated to me, saying: Baqiyyah—that is, Ibn al-Walīd—narrated to us, from Mubashshir ibn ʿUbayd, from ʿAtāʾ ibn al-Sāʾib, from Abū Sālih, from Ibn ʿAbbās, concerning the words of Allah Most High:
“Just as He originated you, so shall you return: one group He guided, while another deserved to be in error.” [al-Aʿrāf: 30]
Likewise, when He created them, He created them as believers and unbelievers, blessed and wretched; and likewise, on the Day of Resurrection, they shall return guided and astray.
