433 — Al-Firyābī also informed us, saying: Abū Kāmil al-Jahdarī narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd al-Wāhid narrated to us, saying: Al-Aʿmash narrated to us, from Abū Ishāq, from Abū al-Hajjāj al-Azdī, who said:
I said to Salmān, “What do people mean when they say, ‘Until you believe in the divine decree, both its good and its evil’?” He replied, “When you believe in the divine decree, you know that what passed you by could never have befallen you, and what befell you could never have passed you by. Nor do you say, ‘Had I done such and such, such and such would have happened,’ or, ‘Had I not done such and such, such and such would not have happened.’”
