431 — Al-Firyābī also informed us, saying: ʿUbayd Allah ibn Muʿādh narrated to us, saying: Al-Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān narrated to us from his father, who said: Abū ʿUthmān narrated to us that he heard ʿAbd Allah—or Salmān, and I believe it was none other than Salmān—say:

“Allah left Adam’s clay to mature for forty nights—or forty days—then struck it with both His hands. Every good person came forth in His right hand, and every wicked person in His other hand. Then He mixed them together.” He said, “Hence the living comes forth from the dead, and the dead from the living”—or words to that effect.

432 — Al-Firyābī also informed us, saying: Abū Marwān ʿAbd al-Malik ibn Habīb al-Missīsī narrated to us, saying: Abū Ishāq al-Fazārī narrated to us from Sulaymān al-Taymī, from Abū ʿUthmān al-Nahdī, from Salmān, who said:

“Allah left Adam’s clay to mature for forty days—or forty nights…” He then related the hadith, narrating it from Salmān alone.
