42 — Abū Ahmad Hārūn ibn Yūsuf narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abī Umar narrated to us, saying: Abd al-Wahhāb al-Thaqafī narrated to us, from Ayyūb, from Ibn Abī Mulayka, from ⦗339⦘ Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) recited:
“It is He who sent down the Book to you. In it are precise verses, which are the foundation of the Book, and others that are ambiguous. As for those in whose hearts is deviation, they follow what is ambiguous therein, seeking discord and seeking its interpretation; but no one knows its interpretation except Allah”—and so on to the end of the verse. [Āl Imrān: 7]
He then said, “When you see those who dispute concerning it, they are the ones to whom Allah Most High referred, so beware of them.”
