414 — Abū Muhammad Yahyā ibn Muhammad ibn Sāʿid narrated to us, saying: Muhammad ibn al-Walīd al-Fahhām reported to us, saying: Yahyā ibn Maymūn ibn Atā, Abū Ayyūb, narrated to us, from Alī ibn Zayd ibn Judān, from Abū Nadra, from Abū Saīd al-Khudrī, who said: The Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said to Abd Allah ibn Abbās:

“O young boy—or, ‘O little boy’—shall I not teach you something by which Allah may benefit you? Be mindful of Allah, and He will protect you. Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him before you. When you ask, ask Allah; and when you seek help, seek Allah’s help. Know Allah in times of ease, and He will know you in times of hardship. The pen has dried concerning all that will come to pass. If all people were to unite to give you ⦗833⦘ something Allah had not granted you, they would be unable to do so. And if all people were to unite to withhold from you something Allah had decreed and written for you, they would be unable to do so. Know that every hardship is followed by relief, that with hardship comes ease, and that with hardship comes ease.”

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn, may Allah have mercy on him, said: Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs. Praise be to Allah in every circumstance. We have already cited the proofs from Allah’s Book and the sunnah of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, refuting the Qadariyya. I shall now relate what has been narrated from the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—and may Allah be pleased with all the Companions—concerning their refutation of the Qadariyya in accordance with the Book and the sunnah. I shall then relate what has been narrated from those who followed them in righteousness and from the imams of the Muslims concerning their refutation of the Qadariyya and their warnings to the Muslims against the evil of their doctrines.
