37 — Abū Ahmad Hārūn ibn Yūsuf also narrated to us, saying: Ibn Abī Umar—that is, Muhammad al-Adanī—narrated to us, saying: Sufyān ibn Uyaynah narrated to us, from Abū al-Zubayr, from ⦗332⦘ Jābir (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) was distributing the spoils of Hunayn at al-Ji‘rānah, while the unminted gold was in Bilāl’s lap. A man said to him, “O Messenger of Allah, be just, for you have not been just.” He replied, “Woe to you! Who would be just if I were not just?” Umar said, “O Messenger of Allah, let me strike off his head.” He replied, “No, leave him. This man is one of a group of his fellows who recite the Quran, but it does not pass beyond their collarbones. They pass clean through the religion just as an arrow passes clean through its quarry.”
