365 — Abū ʿUbayd ʿAlī ibn al-Husayn ibn Harb al-Qādī informed us, saying: Abū al-Ashʿath Ahmad ibn al-Miqdām narrated to us, saying: Abū ʿĀmir al-ʿAqadī narrated to us, from al-Zubayr ibn ʿAbd Allah, who said: Jaʿfar ibn Musʿab narrated to me, saying: I heard ʿUrwa ibn al-Zubayr narrate from Aisha, from the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—who said:
“When Allah wills to create a creature ⦗785⦘, He sends an angel who enters the womb and asks, ‘My Lord, what shall it be?’ He replies, ‘A boy or a girl,’ or whatever Allah wills to create in the womb. The angel then asks, ‘My Lord, wretched or blessed?’ He replies, ‘Wretched or blessed.’ He asks, ‘My Lord, what will his lifespan be?’ He replies, ‘Such-and-such.’ He asks, ‘My Lord, what will his provision be?’ He replies, ‘Such-and-such.’ He asks, ‘What will his physical form be? What will his innate traits be?’ He replies, ‘Such-and-such.’ Thus, there is nothing that is not created along with him in the womb.”
