360 — Al-Firyābī also informed us, saying: Qutayba ibn Saʿīd narrated to us, saying: Sufyān narrated to us, from ʿAmr—that is, Ibn Dīnār—from Abū al-Tufayl, from Hudhayfa ibn Asīd, who said: The Messenger of Allah—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said:

“The angel comes to the sperm-drop after it has been in the womb for forty or forty-five nights ⦗780⦘ and says, ‘My Lord, what shall this one be—wretched or blessed?’ Allah Most High says, ‘Write it,’ and it is written. The angel then says, ‘Male or female?’ Allah Most High says, ‘Write it,’ and it is written. He then records his provision, his deeds, and the affliction that will befall him. The records are then rolled up, and nothing is added to them or subtracted from them.”
