357 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Qutayba ibn Sa‘īd narrated to us, saying: Abd ⦗776⦘ al-Azīz ibn Muhammad narrated to us, from Amr ibn Abī Amr, from al-A‘raj, from Abū Hurayra, who said: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “Adam and Moses argued with one another. Moses said to him, ‘O Adam, Allah created you with His own hand and breathed into you of His Spirit. He then commanded the angels, and they prostrated themselves before you. He commanded you to dwell in Paradise and eat freely from it wherever you wished, and He forbade you only one tree. Yet you disobeyed your Lord and ate from it?’ Adam replied, ‘O Moses, did you not know that Allah Most High had decreed that for me before He created me?’” The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—then said: “Adam indeed prevailed over Moses in argument; Adam indeed prevailed over Moses in argument.”

Muhammad ibn al-Husayn said: The hadith of Abū Hurayra has many chains of transmission, of which we have deemed this one sufficient.
