356 — Abū Bakr ibn Abī Bakr informed us, saying: Ahmad ibn Sālih narrated to us, saying: Sufyān ibn Uyayna narrated to us, from Amr, from Tāwūs, who heard Abū Hurayra—may Allah be pleased with him—say: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “Adam and Moses argued with one another. Moses said, ‘You are Adam, our father. You caused us to be expelled from Paradise and brought misery upon us!’ Adam replied, ‘And you are Moses. Allah chose you by speaking to you and wrote the Torah for you with His own hand. Do you blame me for something Allah had decreed for me forty years before He created me?’ Thus Adam prevailed over Moses in argument; Adam prevailed over Moses in argument; Adam prevailed over Moses in argument.” Amr said: Tāwūs told us, “Keep Ma‘bad al-Juhanī at a distance, for he was a Qadarite.”
