355 — Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Qutayba ibn Sa‘īd narrated to us, from Mālik ibn Anas, from Abū al-Zinād, from al-A‘raj, from Abū Hurayra, that the Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “Adam and Moses argued with one another, and Adam prevailed over Moses in argument. Moses said to him, ‘Are you the one who led mankind astray and caused them to be expelled from Paradise?’ Adam replied, ‘Are you Moses, whom Allah endowed with knowledge of all things and chose above mankind through His messages?’ He said, ‘Yes.’ Adam said, ‘Then why do you blame me for something that was decreed for me before I was created?’”
