354 — Al-Firyābī narrated to us, saying: Abū Mas‘ūd Ahmad ibn al-Furāt narrated to us, saying: Mūsā ibn Ismā‘īl informed us, saying: Hammād ibn Salama narrated to us, from Humayd, from al-Hasan, from Jundub, who said: The Messenger of Allah—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “Adam and Moses—peace be upon them both ⦗774⦘—argued with one another. Moses said, ‘O Adam, are you the one whom Allah created with His Hand, into whom He breathed of His Spirit, before whom He made His angels prostrate, and whom He lodged in His Paradise, yet what you did caused your offspring to be expelled from Paradise?’ Adam replied, ‘Are you Moses, whom Allah Most High sent with His messages, to whom He spoke, to whom He gave the Torah, and whom He drew near for private communion? Did I come first, or did the Record?’” The Prophet—peace and blessings be upon him—said: “Thus Adam prevailed over Moses in argument.”
