347 — And Abū ʿAbd Allah Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Shāhīn narrated to us, saying: ʿAbd Allah ibn ʿUmar al-Kūfī narrated to us, saying: Ishāq ibn Sulaymān narrated to us, from Muʿāwiya ibn ⦗768⦘ Yahyā, from al-Zuhrī, from Muhammad ibn ʿUbāda ibn al-Sāmit, who said: I entered upon my father, and he said, “My dear son, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say: ‘The first thing Allah, Mighty and Majestic, created was the Pen. He said to it, “Write.” It asked, “What shall I write?” He said, “Write the divine decree.” At that very moment, it wrote everything that would come to pass until the Day of Resurrection.’”
