340 – Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Abu Anas Mālik ibn Sulaymān al-Alhānī al-Himsī narrated to us, saying: Baqiyyah ibn al-Walīd narrated to us, from Artāh ibn al-Mundhir, from Mujāhid ibn Jabr, who had been informed by Ibn Umar that the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “The first thing Allah Most High created was the Pen. He took it in His right hand—and both of His hands are right hands—and wrote down this world and every deed that would be done therein, whether righteous or wicked, fresh or dry. He recorded it all with Him in the Record.” He then said, “Read, if you wish: ‘This, Our Record, speaks against you with the truth. Indeed, We had everything you did transcribed’ [al-Jāthiyah: 29]. Can a copy be made from anything other than something already completed?”
