339 – Abu Muhammad Abd Allah ibn Salih al-Bukhari informed us, saying: al-Husayn ibn Ali al-Hulwani narrated to us, saying: Abu Tawbah al-Rabi ibn Nafi narrated to us, from Baqiyyah ibn al-Walid, who said: Artāh ibn al-Mundhir narrated to us, from Mujāhid, from Ibn Umar, who said: The Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—said, “The first thing Allah—Mighty and Majestic—created was the Pen. He took it in His right hand—and each of His hands is a right hand—and wrote down this world and every deed that would be done therein, whether righteous or wicked, fresh or dry. He then entered it in the Record kept with Him.” He then said, “Read, if you wish: ‘This, Our Record, speaks against you with the truth. Indeed, We had everything you did transcribed’ [al-Jāthiyah: 29]. Can a copy be made from anything other than something already completed?”
