326 – Al-Firyābī informed us, saying: Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shayba narrated to us, saying: Shabāba ibn Sawwār narrated to us, saying: Shuba narrated to us, from Asim ibn Ubayd Allāh, from Sālim ibn Abd Allāh, from his father, that Umar ibn al-Khattāb (may Allah be pleased with him) said, “O Messenger of Allah, tell me about what we do: is it a matter that has already been settled, or a matter newly originated—or newly begun?” He replied, “Rather, it is a matter that has already ⦗745⦘ been settled.” Umar asked, “Should we not then simply rely?” He replied, “Act, O son of al-Khattāb, for everyone is facilitated toward that for which he was created. Whoever is among the people of felicity will perform the deeds leading to felicity, while whoever is among the people of wretchedness will perform the deeds leading to wretchedness.” The hadith of Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) has many chains of transmission, of which we have deemed these sufficient.
